Winnemuca Indian Colony Rejuvenated through Partnership with
Tribal Cannabis Consulting

The Nevada-based consulting group provides economic programs and business development support for
Native tribes entering the cannabis industry.

RENO, Nevada – (January 14, 2021) — Twenty years ago, Winnemuca Colony was plunged into disarray following the still unsolved murder of then Chairman Glenn Wasson. For two decades, the Colony lacked basic services and business opportunities, but since partnering with Tribal Cannabis Consultants (TCC) to provide full economic development solutions, the colony has found new avenues for recovery in the cannabis market and is undergoing a complete transformation.

When TCC began working with the Winnemuca, homelessness and poor living conditions were a problem in the colony. Today there is a housing development in the works, a local police presence, and a new cannabis dispensary driving economic revitalization.

Prior to TCC’s involvement the area was policed by the Bureau of Indian police force, but TCC negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding with the nearby Lovelock Tribe to replace the BIA as local law enforcement. In a fitting tribute, TCC helped the Winnemuca build a new police station on the site of Wasson’s murder.

In April 2020, with the advisement and support of TCC the Winnemuca cannabis dispensary officially launched. The business was profitable within the first three months, despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and curbside pick-up only during its opening two-months. The store already employs eight community members, with the promise of future job opportunities.

“The Winnemuca Colony is a strong example of how TCC works with Native American tribes to better the entire community by helping them enter the lucrative cannabis industry,” said Tribal Cannabis Consultants co-founder Cassandra Dittus. “With our experience, we guide tribes through the entire regulatory process to establish cannabis businesses and to succeed in the industry.”

An important component for tribes is the proprietary Seed to Sale compliant software TCC developed. The turnkey technology platform ensures a cannabis business is in compliance, but does not share information that would infringe on the tribe’s sovereignty.

With a poverty rate of nearly 30 percent on reservations, TCC has the industry expertise to radically impact the quality of life for Native communities across the country with its new economic programs and developments.
